Who are we looking for?

This submissions call is for Black writers, and Black writers only — this includes the entire African diaspora. We’re looking for journalists, students, professors, activists, artists, filmmakers, photographers, musicians, authors, dancers, school teachers, lawyers, athletes, business people, civil servants, and more. Must be comfortable detailing their experiences and realities, good and bad, as Black people.

what are we looking for?

The theme of this book anthology is about Black life. This is broad (and specific) enough to guide you. Despite common media and entertainment’s portrayal of Black people as one-dimension or monolithic, Black people are multi-dimensional and varied, even though there are obviously some common bonds and expressions. This book anthology seeks to showcase this fact.

Without narrowing the field of possibilities, here are some story ideas perfect for the book...

➡️ Stories about interpersonal relationships, including friendship, dating, and sexual relationships.

➡️ Political stories, including but not limited to: activism, sports, law, entertainment, national, state, and local political scenes.

➡️ Stories about art and culture.

➡️ Personal essays.

➡️ Important milestones and figures in Black life (known and lesser known).

➡️ Stories about family genealogy, including but not limited to: family discovery, family separation, and family reunited.
