The doctrine of mutually assured destruction (MAD) is a fitting analogy and guide for dating and sex and the types of bonds that we form from these interpersonal relationships. Why some couples stay together (or why some bonds last) and why others ultimately split up (and why some bonds crash), often speaks to self-preservation. People in relationships - serious or casual - stay in or leave those relationships based on what Said calls the "theory of mutual self-destruction" (TMSD). As an umbrella term, TMSD serves as an excellent pathway to exploring the nature of dating and sexual relationships.

Dating & Sex: The Theory of Mutual Self-Destruction is an anthology of essays written by different people from all walks a life. Edited by Amir Said, this profound and in-depth collection offers a great deal of insight into modern dating and sex and the challenges of relationships.

**What Will be in Vol. 2 of dating & Sex: The theory of mutual self-destruction?**

Vol.2 of Dating & Sex: The Theory of Mutual Self-Destruction will be bigger, figuratively and literally speaking. It will include new authors, with at least 10 additional slots capping out at around 50 new essays.

**When Will Vol.2 of Dating & Sex: The Theory of mutual self-destruction be Published?**

The essay selection process is already under way, with a new open call for essays going out in October. Publication is set for June, 2024. However, to make this date and reach our distribution and publicity goals, the book must be finished three months in advance. So technically, the book needs to be finished and sent out by mid-March 5, 2024. This private crowdfund will help us stay on schedule! Those who pledge their support will also be the first to receive the book, plus receive rewards that won’t be available anywhere else.

What's in the Budget?

I've raised the minimum rate for authors to $500 per essay, so a big chunk of the money will be used to pay authors! Next money will go to pay copyediting, typesetting, and proofreading costs. Finally, the single biggest cost will be printing. The initial print run will be 10,000 copies, per industry standard for a full media campaign. My goal is to raise $25,000.

challenges

With the sheer size of Vol. 2 of Dating & Sex: TMSD and the anticipated number of authors included, the biggest challenge will be that the typesetting, copyediting, proofing, and printing takes more time than planned. But there is nothing that stands in my way of meeting this challenge once I have the funds in hand. I have an actionable plan, a realistic timeline, and – most importantly – the in-house expertise to get the job done.
